COMMUNITY PHARMACY CONSULTATIONS

The Practice is participating in a new approach to improve access for patients to GP appointments. The aim is to direct patients to the most appropriate healthcare professional which may be a GP or Pharmacist.

For 25th April 2022 if your symptoms could be resolved by a booked consultation with the pharmacist instead of the GP, you will be given a same day referral to a pharmacy of your choice.

We think this is a good thing. Once you see how great your local pharmacist is – they are highly trained and skilled clinicians experienced in treating minor illnesses such as Bites/stings, colds, earache, conjunctivitis-sore eyes, heartburn, constipation, blisters or swellings – we don’t thing you’ll look back.

This will also help us free up GP appointments to people with more complex health needs and ensure that everyone gets treated at the right time, by the right Healthcare Professional.

The reception team will assess the patient to determine if minor ailment is appropriate for referral to the community pharmacy. You will be booked at a pharmacy of your choice and contacted within 24 hours. The Pharmacist will conduct a full assessment in a private room and advice and/or treat your condition. If the pharmacist feels that you need to be followed up by a GP, we have a dedicated phone line for the pharmacist to escalate to our reception team and they will contact you to directly book a GP appointment

Thank you for your support.
